Seminar Grant

Seminar Grants of up to £300 are available to sponsor mycology-themed talks in UK university seminar programmes.

DEADLINE: Applications can be submitted at any time, but must be received by the BMS at least 1 month prior to the seminar.

 

Eligibility

The Seminar Grant is open to organisers of research seminars in UK university seminar programmes. BMS membership is not required.  The topic of the seminar must be an aspect of fungal biology.   

What is covered by the grant?

Costs associated with hosting a mycology-focused seminar such as speaker travel costs and accommodation.  

How to apply

The seminar organiser should contact admin@britmycolsoc.info with the following information:

  • their contact details
  • the topic, date, time and location of the seminar
  • details of the nominated speaker (name, role, research institute)
  • a link to the speaker's academic profile on their research institute website (or a brief CV)
  • the requested amount (up to a maximum of £300) and a breakdown of the costs that the grant will help cover

Assessment of applications

Applications will be reviewed by members of the BMS Council and the decision communicated within 2 weeks of application.

Conditions of the award

The seminar should be advertised as a BMS-sponsored seminar and include an Introductory Slide (supplied by the BMS) highlighting BMS activities and member benefits.  The BMS will list the seminar on its website and in the Members' Newsletter.  If the seminar is recorded, and the speaker is in agreement, the BMS will share the recording via its digital channels.

Administration of award

The awarded grant will be paid to the hosting institution upon submission of receipts.
