Annual General Meeting 2024 Society
Online
The Annual General Meeting will be held online from 7pm, and will be followed by a talk from Guest Speaker, Dr Ali Ashby: "Welcome to the ‘fungal zeitgeist’ – will our future with fungi be fruitful?"
Ali will join members after the formal business of the Annual General Meeting to talk about why and how we are leveraging fungi to tackle some of humanities most pressing challenges, from fungal coffins, fungal fashion and fungal yoghurts to designer soils, fungal medicines and emerging fungal diseases.
"Our future with fungi hangs in the balance - not only in the quest for a more sustainable world, but also for our survival on planet Earth."
09:00 – 19:00
Fungi Around the World Education
Webinar | Free and open to all | 3 sessions to cover all time zones | Recordings available afterwards
Featuring speakers from across the globe, and covering a variety of mycology topics, this event is part of the UK Fungus Day celebrations.
Fungi are essential players in all ecosystems on all of Earth's continents, and in seas, oceans and freshwater ecosystems too. They are also important in agriculture, food and medicine.
This webinar will have speakers from across the globe talking on a wide range of topics. The webinar is divided into 3 sessions, across the morning, afternoon and evening UK-time, to allow attendees from all continents to attend some of the talks live, and recordings will be available to view at a later date. Each session will include four 30-minute talks, followed by general discussion.
Autumn Field Meeting 2024 Field
Taking place in the Forest of Dean, with 7 nights' accommodation, breakfast and dinner at the Bells Hotel and Country Club, Coleford, Gloucestershire.
This event is now fully booked.
If you'd like to be added to the waiting list, please email Sally Hawkes at sally@britmycolsoc.info
The Coleford base for this meeting lies between the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Both areas are rich in ancient semi-natural woodland: 800 hectares in the limestone Wye Gorge which also has 45 Sites of Special Scientific Interest in the designated area, and the more managed environment of mature Oaks and Douglas Fir in the Forest of Dean, which was designated the first national Forest Park in 1938. Both areas are strongholds for nature: beavers have been recently introduced and wild boar frequent the forest.
Geoffrey Kibby has kindly offered to tutor this event. So we can expect his expertise will enrich our week!
