Prof. Tariq M. Butt

Personal Chair

Research Focus

Development of fungi for pest control.

Scientific Activities

Professor Tariq Butt leads the Biocontrol and Natural Products (BANP) team at Swansea University. The multidisciplinary team focuses on developing entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) and other biopesticides for the control of invertebrate pests of socio-economic importance. The team also study fungal metabolites and are prospecting for compounds which could be developed as therapeutics.

Tariq has published over 125 articles in peer reviewed journals, co-edited 2 books and written over 14 book chapters. He works closely with industry developing environmentally friendly products and strategies for pest control. He also works closely with government agencies on matters related to risk assessment and registration of fungal biocontrol agents.
