This group was established in 1997 by a small group of mushroom enthusiasts with an interest in identifying and recording fungi. We have resisted the temptation just to collect edible species on our forays although we are always happy to offer help and advice to those who do. Since 1997 we have grown to a membership of over 40 and run a variety of workshops and forays mostly in the late summer and autumn. Most of these events take place in Moray and Aberdeenshire but our weekend meetings have taken us as far away as Bettyhill near Thurso, Speyside, Fife and Perthshire.

The group publish one newsletter a year, usually coming out in Dec /Jan, which contains an over view of the years activities and any particularly interesting finds or mycological exploits that members might have been involved in. We are affiliated to the British Mycological Society, which provides public liability insurance and support through its local recording network coordinator and we liaise with other Scottish recording groups and nature conservation organizations wherever possible.

We are always delighted to welcome new members including complete beginners. It costs just £5.00 a year to become a member. All that you need on a foray is a packed lunch, warm and waterproof clothing, a notebook, something to collect fungi in, enthusiasm and a sense of humour! We also offer microscopy workshops for those who want to take their mycology a bit further. We have a small library of books and some basic microscopes, which members can borrow to get them started.
