ASM Microbe 2016- EMS Members Virtual special issue

Over the last 40 years, the Federation of European Microbiological Societies has grown from a handful of scholarly societies intent on promoting academic mobility across Europe to a pan-European coalition of 53 microbiology organizations. Collectively we promote excellence and international cooperation, while at the same time working to maximize the benefits of microbiological understanding in solving critical problems on the ground. Our combined community of 30,000 scientists, educators and microbiology professionals includes many of the world’s leading researchers and opinion leaders, and together, through our respective journals, we publish some of our field’s most important research.

This joint Virtual Issue is a celebration of both this long-term cooperation between the FEMS This joint Virtual Issue is a celebration of both this long-term cooperation between the FEMS Member Societies and the strong tradition of microbiology in Europe. It brings together articles from across the world, representing 17 journals published by 8 members of Europe’s growing microbiology network to feature some of the most popular recent articles on topics ranging from the pandemic potential of Influenza A virus to the antimicrobial activity of wine yeasts. We are really delighted to have this opportunity to showcase some of our truly international authors, and would like to thank all of the participating publishers and societies who have helped to put this wonderful collection together.
