Historically, the Society organised public exhibitions and displays at venues such as the Chelsea Flower Show, Malvern Three Counties Show and Tatton Park Flower Show, where our displays were highly regarded and often won medals.
In 2013 the Society placed fungi well and truly ‘on the map’ by providing financial support for the inaugural ‘UK Fungus Day’ weekend of activities, encouraging our recording groups and other interested parties to join us in raising awareness of fungi and fungal science. The inaugural event was launched by the Cambridge Science Centre with over fifty venues across the UK taking part in UK Fungus Day 2013. This year saw over 85 events nationwide supporting UK Fungus Day and saw involvement of a large number of key organisations, including the Royal Society of Biology, Universities and Research Institutes, Plantlife, the Royal Horticultural Society, National Trust, the Wildlife Trusts, Kew Gardens, NBGW, RBGE, Cambridge University Botanic Gardens and the RSPB centres.
We are committed to raising awareness of fungi and fungal science through our UK Fungus Day outreach arm. Join us for next year’s festival planned for the weekend of 7th & 8th October 2017.
