UK Fungus Day 2016
UK Fungus Day 2016 kick started the Royal Society of Biology’s ‘Biology week’ activities for the fourth year running with over 85 events nationwide over the weekend of 8-9th October 2016, ranging from fungus walks, academic talks, schools competitions, artistic workshops and large scale public engagement events.
UK Fungus Day 2015
For the third year running, the British Mycological Society’s UK Fungus Day was the flagship event that lead the Royal Society of Biology’s ‘Biology Week’ celebrations, with over 60 events nationwide over the weekend of 10th & 11th October 2015, including academic talks, fungus walks and activities for families and children; and supported by organisations including the BMS affiliated recording groups, Royal Society of Biology, The Royal Horticultural Society, the RSPB, the Wildlife Trusts, Kew Gardens & the National Institute for Agricultural Botany (NIAB). Events took place across the country at locations including botanic gardens, museums, universities, nature reserves and RHS gardens. Together our event organisers and their willing helpers helped to raise awareness of fungi and fungal science, putting fungi firmly on the map.
Big Nature Day, Natural History Museum
On Sunday 23rd May the British Mycological Society joined over 40 Natural History Groups to take part in ‘The Big Nature Day’ event at the Natural History Museum in London. The event was the largest to date with over 5000 visitors and 44 natural history groups. The BMS exhibition had some valuable displays forming an attractive and informative backdrop including a collection of different spore prints, a woodland floor with mycelium, BMS banners, a stream of excellent fungi photos and a birch tree. The visual material successfully invoked discussion and participation.
UK Fungus Day 2014
On 11th & 12th October 2014 the British Mycological Society with support from academics, field mycologists, educators and industry; held the UK Fungus Day weekend to raise awareness of fungi and fungal science. Events covering various regions across the UK and Ireland took place.
UK Fungus Day 2013 Inaugural event
Fifty seven event organisers in 26 different regions across the UK and Ireland supported UK Fungus Day over the weekend of 12th and 13th October. Support came from fungus recording groups, academics in Universities and Industry, Educators and fungal enthusiasts.
