Awards for Young Members (Under 25 Years of Age) to Attend Society Meetings and Forays These awards take the form of a voucher giving discount on the accommodation and other charges set out on any booking form for a meeting or foray of the British Mycological Society. Travel expenses will not be met and normally only a single award will be made to an applicant in any one calendar year. The hotlink in the title of this paragraph downloads the application form. Complete this application form and post it, together with the required supporting documents, to the General Secretary at least two clear months before the meeting for which the award is sought.
BMS Small Grants Scheme Funds are available from the Small Grants Scheme to promote mycology in a wide variety of ways. The amount available for any one undertaking is unlikely to exceed £300 but what it can be used for is entirely up to your imagination. Mycologists might need help:
· to travel to meetings
· with fieldwork or research projects
· to buy books or scientific equipment
· to hire meeting rooms or attend forays
· to support the cost of preparing applications to other agencies for funding for mycological projects.
These Grants are open to all categories of member AND non-members of the Society; and both individuals and Local Groups may apply. Applications based on hardship will be considered sympathetically (and, of course, confidentially). The hyperlink in the title of this paragraph downloads further information and the separate one-page application forms for individuals and Local Groups. Deadlines for applications are 20th day of March, June, September, or December.
Seminar Speakers Fund Funds are available to support visiting speakers to address universities in the U.K. and Ireland where mycology is taught as part of recognised degree programmes and is the subject of research activity. The hyperlink in the title of this paragraph downloads a page of information about the scheme.
The BMS Undergraduate Student Bursary Award Use this link for an Application form for a BMS Undergraduate Student Bursary to give experience of research in any branch of mycology, for which supervisors at universities and research institutions within the UK and the Republic of Ireland are eligible to apply. The awards provide support for the student at a rate of £150 p/w (£160 p/week in London), normally for between 4 and 10 weeks in the summer vacation before their final year of study. Up to £250 is available to the host institution as a contribution to consumable costs. Students must be registered for a degree course at an institution within the UK or Republic of Ireland. Awards will not be made for projects that are a required part of degree work, or expeditions, or work outside the British Isles. Applications on behalf of students in their final year will not be considered.
