Seventh Mathematics in the Plant Sciences Study Group

The Seventh Mathematics in the Plant Sciences Study Group, hosted by the Centre for Plant Integrative Biology, will take place 5-8 January 2016 at the University Park campus of the University of Nottingham.

Registration is open for modellers, statisticians, image analysts and other quantitatively-minded folks who want to work on interesting plant science problems. We provide all meals and refreshments, and accommodation for those require it. The first two problems are already online for your perusal:

We also have capacity for one more plant science problem – for further details see below, but hurry!

We invite plant biologists to propose a research question amenable to modelling approaches, to be tackled by forty or so mathematical and computational modellers at our workshop. If selected, your ‘problem’ will receive four days of intense input from the assembled group of modellers. Problems tackled at the previous study groups have resulted in publications and successful grant proposals, and can come from any area of plant and crop science. We particularly welcome problems from biologists with minimal experience of working with mathematical modellers.

If you would like to find out more about the problems presented at the previous six meetings, please visit: https://www.cpib.ac.uk/outreach/mpssg/

To propose a problem, please send me (susannah.lydon@nottingham.ac.uk) a 1-2 page description of the research question you would like to tackle with the help of modellers, and a description of the data available to address it. Our committee reviews problems as they come in, until we reach capacity. The sooner we start discussing your potential problem, the more likely it will be in good shape for our modellers. You must be able to attend the entire meeting for your problem to be accepted.

Registration for modellers will open shortly.

Best wishes
Susie, on behalf of the MPSSG Committee
