COURSE IN DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL MYCOLOGY

Apr 03rd 9:00 am - 5:00 am

            April 3-7th, 2017

            COURSE INFORMATION

DATE AND VENUE

The course will be held in the Garstang Teaching Laboratories at the University of Leeds from 3-7th April 2017.

AIMS AND CONTENT

The course is essentially a practical course supplemented by lectures, clinical case studies and discussion groups and is aimed mainly at biomedical scientists and medical microbiologists.  It will provide enough information to enable the participants to undertake the routine procedures used in the laboratory diagnosis of fungal infections.

The course will start with basic mycology and then deal with the clinical features, epidemiology, pathogenesis and laboratory diagnosis of the superficial, subcutaneous and systemic mycoses.  This will include the characteristics and identification of dermatophytes and yeasts, serological tests and laboratory monitoring of antifungal therapy.

LECTURERS AND DEMONSTRATORS

All the lecturers and demonstrators on the course are members of the British Society for Medical Mycology and experienced mycologists.

COURSE FEE

The course fee for the week, including VAT, is £840.  The course fee includes all course materials, tea and coffee during the morning and afternoon breaks.  Please note that lunch is not included in this fee, but there are convenient local cafes, restaurants and shops.

BSMM Diploma/MSc students will also be required to pay an examination fee for the examination which will take place on the afternoon of April 7th.

ACCOMMODATION

Unfortunately we are unable to provide accommodation during the course, but there are many hotels and B&Bs near the University and city centre. If you require accommodation, the Garstang Laboratories are close to Clarendon Road or there are plenty of hotels in Leeds city centre, which is about 15-30 mins walk from the University.

ACCREDITATION

The course has previously been accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) and the Royal College of Pathologists and it is anticipated it will be again.
