Activity 1: Make your favourite fungus

Visit the BMS Gallery to access photographs of different fungal fruit bodies.  Provide children with coloured play dough or clay and ask them to make their favourite fungus!

For older children (KS2: ages 9 – 11; Yrs 5 & 6) you may wish to ask them to research their favourite fungus and write an information sheet to accompany their model.

For this activity teachers are guided towards the ‘what is my favourite fungus’ classroom sheets.

Here are a few examples of models made by KS2 children:

You can see a plant whose roots have mycorrhizas!  There are also three pretty mushroom fruit bodies, a puff ball; birds nest fungus and two cup fungi on a log.
